Our History

In 1991 Elder’s F. Arthur DeVane and Pat McCoy were producing “The Lighthouse Radio Bible Study.”  After receiving a letter from a listener in Makeevka, Ukraine requesting Bibles and Humanitarian aid we responded and shipped a box of clothes and Bibles. After two years of correspondence and aid we made a survey trip to Donetsk in October of 1993. After two years of correspondence and aid we made a survey trip to Donetsk in October of 1993.

A Ukrainian national in the city of Makeevka, hearing a shortwave broadcast of the Lighthouse Radio Bible Study program, contacted the ministry in Donetsk. He held a Bible Study in his apartment and we met with 40-45 people.  One of the members of the study group was a member of “Light of Gospel’ church and she invited us to worship with them.  We did so on Sunday. We had shipped 1,000 Bibles in Russian and Ukrainian to the group.  We took half of these with us to the church. The pastor of the church and director of Light of Resurrection Mission at the time was Leonid Cartavinko.
LOR had started right after Perestroika in 1991. The church, however, had existed for some years underground. Brother Sasha became the mission director in 1997. From the beginning of our relationship we were drawn into a deeper partnership. One of the most important areas of agreement is that we are Reformed in our theology. We believe, and hold to and preach God’s sovereign grace. This doctrinal stand is the backbone of LOR/DMI. We are Baptist and Reformed. One of DMI’s policies is that anyone participating in the pastoral or Bible teaching ministry must adhere to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.
Discipling Ministries International (DMI) has been promoting the  proclamation of the Gospel of Salvation by Grace alone in both Ukraine & Haiti since 1993. This has been accomplished through a variety of ways and is continuously becoming more diverse.  The ministries of DMI have included the following:
  • Financial Assistance For Pastors
  • The Distribution Of Bibles
  • The Distribution Of Medical Supplies
  • The Distribution Of Christian Literature
  • The Support Of Medical Clinics
  • Holding Teaching Seminars
  • Holding Pastoral Seminars
  • Offering Aid To Refugee Families
  • Supporting Rehabilitation Centers
  • Supporting A Girl's Shelter
